What one year in NCC taught me

My first year at NCC has also taught me that discipline is not something that one turns on during a parade but becomes a part of who one is. It was not easy waking up early every morning and being subjected to physical training and drills. It was not easy being pushed out of one’s comfort zone and being made to realize how much more one was capable of. It was not easy being made to understand that it was not just about being able to march in sync or being able to carry out orders but also about mental strength and being able to give one’s best even when one was tired. NCC slowly transformed my attitude from “I’ll try” to “I’ll do.”

Apart from the physical aspect of training, NCC has also taught me a lot about leadership, team work, and responsibility. Being part of a team means that one has a responsibility to others. It was not easy learning how to trust people and work towards a common goal. It was not easy learning how to take responsibility for one’s own actions. It was not easy learning how to take pride in who one was and being able to carry oneself with integrity not just while wearing one’s uniform but also while not wearing it. One year at NCC did not just train one physically but also mentally.
